So the head of Barbarik was buried in the nearby village of Khatu. After many years the burial site remained unknown but later after the beginning of Kali Yuga, one day a cow reached near the site and suddenly milk started coming out of its udder. The villagers were shocked and dug up the ground near the incident. Then they found the head of Barbarik buried inside.

He handed over the head to a Brahmin and had worshiped it for a long time. Roop Singh Chauhan was the Raja of Khatu (village) at the time of the incident. One night he had a dream where he was inspired to build a temple and honor the head. He built and inaugurated the temple on the 11th day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month.

The second story has a different version. According to that belief, Narmada Kanwar, wife of Roop Singh Chauhan, had a dream and in the dream, the supreme power told her that the head of Barbarik was buried there. He was asked to take him out and build a temple in the same place. Later the place was dug and the head was found which was later installed in the temple built on the spot.

Khatushyam Temple Architecture

Khatushyam Temple boasts rich architecture. It is made from lime mortar, tile, stone, and rare stones. The deity is installed in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple idol. The walls of the temple are beautifully decorated with gold sheets. The prayer hall called Jagmohan is situated just outside the center. The entrance and exit doors are made of marble and the hallways have elaborate paintings on the walls depicting mythical creatures.
